Use Segmented-Goal Workflow To Boost Focus & Productivity:
A core design principle behind the Kairos Time Machine is enabling us to follow through on the goals that we set.
Whenever we set a goal this creates the risk of failure and an accompanying belief that we lack willpower or ability. When we start to lower our expectations for personal achievement this is called a decrease in “perceived self-efficacy.”
Goal failure is often caused by attempting to tackle an entire goal without setting reasonable milestones along the way. When we use a staircase the obvious goal is to reach the top, but we can’t simply arrive there, instead we have to make our way up in manageable steps.
A reasonable milestone is a task where we can picture every step of the way, from the starting point up until a milestone is complete.
We often forget to take this same approach for reclaiming time spent online, academic goals, losing weight, personal or relationship goals, and most things worth achieving.
The Time Machine creates a space for pursuing goals without distractions, but it’s important that the goals we set are designed to be possible.
As outlined in the Time Machine’s Best Use Practices, dividing each goal into manageable milestones is a major key to success in any endeavor. That is why each Time Machine will be accompanied by a Goal Manager Schedule, designed to connect each moment reclaimed from your phone to a specific goal milestone.
The Kairos Time Manager Schedule can help us use time intentionally and learn from successes and failures without alike.
With Segmented Goal Workflow, you don't need to keep the big picture in focus all the time. Just pair each period away from your phone with steps toward larger goals and concentrate on every step along the way.
This method is inspired by the proven Pomodoro Technique, and pairs with the Kairos Goal Manager Schedule (included with each time machine).
The method works as follows:
1. Choose how long you want to lock down your phone.
2. Write down a small, specific, goal that you can achieve in that time.
3. Place your phone in the Time Machine. Wind the locking timer to the chosen time.
4. Close the lid. Work against the clock, knowing that a break is coming.
5. When the timer expires, record your progress.
6. Take a moment to acknowledge your achievement.
7. Take a two minute break and repeat with the next goal.
